Angels Cakes & Bakes Blog

Archive for the ‘Cakepops’ Category

Well I’m afraid I have been somewhat lacking on the blog-front! Us Angels have been so busy with the Wirral Christmas food fayre , and then following that: basic recovery!

The first ever food fayre based in Port Sunlight (home of Sunlight Soap and Unilever) was an amazing success, the local paper reported that there were over 9000 visitors and I know from talking to customers that they came from far and wide!

Port Sunlight is such a beautiful Village in itself and well worth a visit, I have loved the place ever since I first visited it as a child and I am lucky that we are literally up-the-road so we didn’t have far to travel. For more information about Port Sunlight Village see this link

The food fayre ran over 2 days and our preparations started days in advance ensuring sure we had all the stuff we needed plus extra for this time of year such as Christmas decorations. The majority of preparations could only start the day before because ideally baked products should be sold and eaten on the same day, although obviously this is not always possible!

So we baked all day Friday from 8am until 10pm and there were 3 of us working really hard! We went to the venue in the afternoon to take some props etc and were stunned by the size of the marquee, which was heated and had wooden flooring etc and looked really impressive. The following morning we were up really early to get to the venue to set up, before we knew it there was people pouring into venue and flocking around our stall.

We had sold out of all of our mince pies after 2 hours and most of our large classic bakes were finished before lunchtime. As things died down around 4pm we decided an Angel would have to go back to base and start baking again. Originally we thought we would have enough stock to last us for the two days but how wrong we were!

We baked until the early hours of the morning and I reckon we couldn’t have baked enough mince pies if we had baked a million, they were gone again straight away and we even had people coming back, who had bought some the previous day, asking for more. One of our Angels even dropped more mince pies off at 3pm and they were gone within 10 minutes.

In summary the food fayre was a huge success and a really great experience for us, particularly as it is only our second event! I have some pictures which were taken on both days before the public were allowed in so it looks really quiet but believe me it was not! On the Saturday night I vowed to take more photos when the stall was busy but we were a man down and I never had the opportunity to leave the stall until everyone had gone. We were left with only a few cupcakes by the end of Sunday and over the two days we gave out loads of information and details and had lots of great feedback, positive comments and we also met some great people too.

Things are just getting back to normal after such a busy weekend and we’ve had to catch up with our other every-day chores, particularly as between us we had car, washing machine, heating and frozen pipe disasters due to the weather conditions! It is all sent to try us, as they say!

What a busy week it has been, lots of cakepops to do and Christmas orders have been streaming in too! My Christmas Eve deadline is looking more and more daunting by the minute, but we like a challenge and always thrive under pressure!

Today we are getting our mince pies and scone recipes perfected ready for the food festival next weekend, which I am really looking forward to, It promises to be VERY festive! see the link below for the exhibitors list if you live in the North West and fancy a festive day out next weekend!

Also this week we have been making our new delicious Christmas Cupcake ‘flavours of the month’: Strawberry, cream and Champagne Cupcakes, and Cookies and cream with mini-oreo decoration! See our website for more details

Anyway it’s back to the grindstone to get more stuff done, hopefully we will have lots of photos of the Food Fayre to post on here next week and don’t forget if you are in the area call in and see us and say hi! Don’t worry we are in a heated marquee so even if the weather is bad it will be worth braving it! chow for now! (by the way in case you think I’m thick, I know it’s ciao, but I like the food connotation of my spelling!) 🙂

I really am slacking at the moment blog-wise, I decided I need to allocate a time and day to write a new post once a week & leave it at that! So Sunday morning it shall be 🙂 (unless we have an event in which case our weekly blog will be on a Monday)

The reason I have been slacking is I have just been so busy! I have been working hard at the salon and cupcake orders from clients there have been rolling in but life in general has been so hectic lately, I must confess though that I quite like it that way!

Anyways we digress, this week I thought I would try something a bit different and as everyone seems to be going cakepop mad at the moment, I thought I’d give them a go! I looked on utube to see what the basic principles were and adapted it to my own idea: Snowball Cakepops. Basically involving lots of coconut and white chocolate YUMMY!

As you can see above the cake pops turned out very well, but for anyone who is thinking of trying them I would say make sure you refrigerate the pops after you have formed the balls for at least half an hour (so the middle of the pops are cold too) before attempting to put dipped sticks into them. Otherwise the sticks will slip (as we discovered) and may come through the end of your cakepop which is not ideal.

Other news is that we are very excited to be attending the Port Sunlight 2-day Christmas food fayre at the start of December. There is a lot of planning and organisation needed for such an event so that has also been taking up our time. It looks as if it will be a fantastic fayre with loads of stalls and chef demonstrations and of course our cupcakes and cakepops! There is also going to be a fairground and live music etc so if you live in the area it is definitely worth a look! Click here for more information

Anyway that is all for now, back to the planning, no rest for the wicked you know!

Long time no-blog, well four days, but that’s a while for me! It’s been a busy few days: meetings, orders, work, birthdays etc. Next week I have loads to do too, I will be trying out cakepops for the first time plus I have a couple of other things up my sleeve!

Hopefully I will have some good news about some up-and-coming events and orders! (*fingers crossed*) but for now I must concentrate on the new products that we are introducing  and our December ‘cupcake of the month’ reveal for Christmas, which is going to be something very special!

Our ‘Cupcake of the month’ are usually very different in one way or another from our standard cupcakes but we always keep the price the same as our standard cupcakes, so they are really good value for money.  Plus the Christmas Special promises to be just that! Anyway enough for now, watch this space or the website for more info!

Below is a couple of cupcake pictures from our weekend orders and also one of my beautiful rescue cat Sunnie (or Sunnie cat, as he is affectionately known in our house), who just loves his comfort!
